Director Rosie Kat spoke to Dean “Dino” Weatherbed of BBC Radio Nottingham about Streetwise Opera’s response to The Marriage of Figaro.
Created with adults who have experienced homelessness, the new 15-minute opera reimagines Mozart’s story in a modern warehouse, where workers stand up to a bullying employer. The interview highlighted the project’s focus on co-creation, empowerment and identity, as well as the excitement of seeing performers’ own ideas, words and music brought to life on the Theatre Royal stage with musicians from Opera North.
We were thrilled to hear Dino say that Streetwise Opera gives people who may have felt that their thoughts and opinions don’t matter the chance to express themselves and show the massive difference their ideas can make.
